1. No Shouting
onsen Although you may be excited at a bath or at a Ryokan-hotel, shouting or singing in a loud voice is too thoughtless for other customers.  Have fun with the beautiful sight, the murmur of a small stream, and the humming of birds to not distract others.

2. Wash your body prior to soaking in a hot bath
It is mandatory to wash your body before you get into a bath.  It’s up to you to rub hard or light, but be sure to wash hands and feet, and where hair grows.  Also, be sure to soak off bubbles from shampoo and body soap.  Do not use soaps in a hot bath.

4. Be thoughtful for ladies at mix bathing (men and women use the same bath)
According to a bath’s circumstances, sometimes the bath is not separated by the sex.  In case of those, men should not stare at women’s body.  Basically, soaking the towel in a bath is taboo, but you do not have to obey its rule for this case.
