Opened in 1926, the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum originally didn’t house any art collections, but instead was used for planned displays and public exhibits. The building that stands today was reconstructed in 1975 by Kunio Maekawa, but is currently undergoing large-scale repairs, planned to be reopened in the spring of 2012.
