Separating recyclables from trash and how to bring them properly. Let' s separate recyclables from refuse and bring them on each proper day in proper way!Please check the date of pick up on the refuse collection calendar.

For Example: in Hachioji City

Newspapers and flyers
(Picked up every two weeks)
Proper way to trash: Put newspapers and flyers together and fasten them tightly with strings (you can get at any convenience store such as Seven-Eleven, am.pm, and Family mart).
*Even if you use paper bags of newspaper sales agent, please fasten bags tightly with strings.
Cardboard
(Picked up every two weeks)
Proper way to trash: Please peel off all the sticky tapes.
Please cut or bend in small pieces of 50 cm square and fasten tightly with strings.
*Cross section of cardboard is corrugated.
Magazines and leaflets
(Picked up every two weeks)
Collectibles: Books, pamphlets, envelopes, cookie boxes, tissue trays, paper centers etc.
*You can bring in papers as large as the half of a name card as recyclables.
Proper way to trash: Open boxes and nip small papers between magazines, or put them into paper bags and fasten tightly with strings.
Cartons
(Picked up every two weeks)
Collectibles: Cartons used for drinks (milk, juice, liquor etc.)
Proper way to trash: Please rinse, cut and dry it prior to trash, then fasten tightly with strings.
Used clothes
(Picked up once a month)
Collectibles: Clothes, sheets, blankets, cloths etc.
Proper way to trash: Please launder once and put it in a transparent or semi-transparent trash bag.
Empty bottles
(Picked up once a week)
Collectibles: Bottles used for drinks and food
Proper way to trash: Please rinse it and lay them onto red and white containers.
Please separate caps and bring them as Non-burnable refuse.
Empty cans
(Picked up once a week)
Collectibles: Cans used for drinks and food
Proper way to trash: Please rinse it, and then collapse lightly. Put them into green containers
Plastic bottles
(Picked up every two weeks)
Collectibles: Bottles for drinks, liquor, mirin and soy sauce marked “recyclable”.
Proper way to trash: Please make sure to put off caps and trash caps as plastics.
Rinse, collapse lightly and put it in a transparent and semi-transparent bag.
Plastics
(Picked up every two weeks)
Collectibles: Bottle containers, foam polystyrene containers and foam polystyrene buffers.
Proper way to trash: In case of bottles, please rinse it. Please put them into a transparent and semi-transparent bags
Please trash plastic caps as plastics and metal caps as Non-burnable refuse.
Please trash pumps of pump-up style containers as Non-burnable refuse.

Volunteering bags

When you clean up public spaces such as streets and parks and want to put away refuse, please use volunteering bags. They are available at public facilities such as city office.

Diaper only bags(for babies and infants)

Families who use disposable diapers for their babies and infants will be provided diaper disposal bags for free. Picked up dates and sites are the same as the ones for Burnable refuse. Please make sure to dispose sewage into toilets.
